Ultram (tramadol) is a prescription drug used to relieve moderate to severe pain. You can take this medicine with some food or without, but make sure you maintain the same level of the medicine in your bloodstream by taking it at regular intervals. Do not stop taking Ultram suddenly without previously discussing it with your health care provider, as you can have some serious withdrawal symptoms. Some of the symptoms you can get if you suddenly stop your treatment include nausea, diarrhea, sweating, hallucinations, chills and trouble sleeping. Do not crush the tablet of Ultram – take it whole with a full glass of water to prevent it from melting in your esophagus.

Taking street drugs, narcotic pain medicine, medicine for depression or anxiety, sedatives, tranquilizers or medicine for mental illness can interfere with the efficiency of your treatment. Do not start taking any other prescription or over-the-counter drugs without your doctor’s consent. In some cases patients taking Ultram have reported seizures. You have a higher risk of seizures if you have a history of head injury, metabolic disorder, epilepsy, another seizure disorder, or if you have or had an addiction to drugs or alcohol. More serious side effects that may occur in a small number of patients include red, blistering, peeling skin rash, seizure, shallow breathing, and weak pulse.
